The tune from this hymn was written by Joseph Barnby in 1868. The text is by an anonymous source from a German hymn. It was translated by Edward Caswall (1814–1878). I'm not sure who composed the descant. Conducted by Stephen Schmall at high mass on January 18, 2004.
This hymn is #143 in the "Green Hymnal" (1966 Benziger Catholic Hymnal).
