Description
http://www.fitforafeast.com Here is Sloane's Tap Solo from the 2015 Competition Season. This solo is danced to the very wonderful song Hold You In My Arms by Ray Lamontagne. It's a very soulful song that you may not think would be a choice for a tap solo. However, the very talented tap dancer and choreographer Ryan Foley chose this song for Sloane and he did a stellar job with the choreography! Here he has Sloane do very intricate steps and get all the rhythms in between the main beat.
In fact, this kind of tap is known as Rhythm Tap as opposed to Competition or Broadway Tap. This is more in keeping with the style that Sloane did while training with Everett Smith at The Tap Dance Centre. Ryan is also an instructor there. It is one of the best training facilities for tap dancing in Canada and every year they hold the Eastern Canadian Tap Conference, hosted by the owner Kim Chalovich.

This was Sloane's very first time performing this solo. The competition was View Dance Challenge at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. She finished learning the piece only a couple weeks prior and ended up with the highest tap score of the entire competition! She was the first competitor to score over 95 (receiving a 95.22) and also came First Overall in the Teen Division! It was a very successful weekend for her to say the least. The special awards judge also gave Sloane an award called "Refreshing". She commented on how she loved how Sloane was so relaxed during her dance. She makes very hard and quick tap steps look easy.
Just as an FYI, this song plays near the end of the great movie "She's The Man" starring Amanda Bynes.
