My first job was playing piano on an ocean liner going back and forth across the Atlantic. I was frequently in New York, and loved exploring the city. There was something unreal (and unforgettable) about standing out on deck on a sunny afternoon eating ice-cream as the Statue of Liberty passed behind us!

At the start of this year, I took a ship to America for the first time since I disembarked back in 2016. This time we were heading to Florida - a part of America I’d not previously explored - but memories of my earlier trips were recalled to my mind. As the Classical pianist, I had a piano in my cabin, and was able to write this piece of music on the way, hence the title “America”.

The Statue of Liberty aerial footage was shot by Kevin Bright who kindly allowed me to use it for this film.
